EPISODE 3
CLASSROOM VISIT AND OBSERVATION
As
I observed the classroom I noticed the different areas in the classroom for
storage like the; cabinets containing the different books, there are also
shelves containing their different educational activities; the learning aids or
materials are placed on the teacher's table then to be posted in the
blackboards. There are rules and regulations posted in their classroom such as
“HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY” that could never been out inside the classroom and
best rules for the students. Another posted that I have notice in their wall is
“ EDUCATION IS THE ABILITY TO ALMOST ANYTHING WIHTOUT LOSING YOURSELF
CONFIDENCE” yes as we go through our studies our self confidence will boost
because of the learning that we have learned. And Of course the students
participated in making their home room rules because they are the one involved
with this practice. The daily routines are: the class starts with a prayer then
continues with the checking of attendance done by the home room teacher, the
class discussion and when the classes end they end it with a prayer also. The
seating arrangement is not in order so that students can seat freely but not
allowed to talk when the class is about to start. And if a learner does not follow instructions
given to him or her teacher provides a disciplinary action and after the
teacher asks nicely why he or she did not follow and will make the students
realize that they should follow. The teacher do to reinforce positive behavior
is by talking nicely to the students and being a good role model to them.
MY
ANALYSIS
1.
How did
the classroom organization and routines affect the learners' behavior?
·
The
classroom organization and routines affect the learners' behavior by knowing
their limitations. The minds of the students are set that they have rules and
regulations to followed because of this,
they will practice their proper attitude and act politely.
2.
What
should the teacher have in mind when he/she designs the classroom organization
and routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
·
The
teacher should have in mind that he or she mingles with students so that he or
she will be more have an interaction with their students and as a second mother
in the classroom, they should make it to
a point that the students are oriented and they participate while making the
rules. And also the teacher should prepare ice breakers so that the students
will not get bore and will retain the interest in studying.
3.
Which
behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating students? Why were they effective?
·
Behavior
strategies effective in managing the behavior of the learners are by doing
positive reinforcement. The teacher should play the characteristics of being
caring, loving and should motivate the learners to pursue their efforts in
their study by giving rewards or incentives if the student performs excellence
in class whether academically or non-academically by doing this so, the
students will strive hard, will actively participate and will perform very
well.
MY
REFLECTIONS
1.
Imagine
yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do
you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
·
As I
imagine myself organizing my classroom in the future, I see that I will be
handling Grade 7 students. If I want to handle Grade 17 students I will always
do a routines or procedures that will surely suit their age range. For example
when the class starts I will teach them to pray first before anything else, I
would also imply that there would be Bible sharing session just so I can get
their interest and slowly going to the subject matter in a way that they will
not feel hazard but instead they will enjoy. I could also conduct ice breakers,
a little dance step and singing a song to stimulate the energy of the students.
And I will also provide few minutes for rest because during this stage of the
learners they will surely get tire as time and activities pass by. Rest minutes
will help them to regain their energy.
2. Make a list of the rules are likely to implement
in this level. Why would you choose these rules?
·
Uniform
of the students should be worn properly.
·
School
I.D. should always be present.
·
Boys
should observe proper haircut.
·
Boys and
Girls should observe proper hygiene all the times.
·
The
students should raise their hands if they want to say something.
·
I choose
these set of rules so that the students will observe cleanliness, and being
orderly so that the students will be able to be responsible of their own being.
I would also like to promote unity inside the classroom and good relationship
between myself and the students.
3. Should learners be involved in making the class
rules? Why?
·
Yes. For
the main reason that they will be the one who will benefited and will follow
these set of rules. And they should also be aware of these rules so that they
will know their limitations.

Physical
Gross motor skills
Fine motor skills
Self-help skills
|
·
High school students are quite behaving than
grade school they can stay longer seating and just listening to the teacher.
·
They can write clearly and draw properly.
·
They also have the ability to help themselves
independently; when the act tends to be higher that’s the tome they’ll ask
for guidance.
|
|
Social
Interaction w/ Teachers
Interaction w/ Classmates/friends
|
·
They interact with their teachers politely and
nicely and with all due respect.
·
The children interact with one another in a
manner..
|
|
Emotional
Moods & temperament, expression of feelings
Emotional independence
|
·
The students are very vocal about their emotions
& feelings. They voice it out to others and to the teachers when they
feel happy, sad or even angry.
·
They are Grade 7 students already; they are more
capable of handling their own personal independence , but it always need a
guidance of teachers.

|
Cognitive
Communication skills
Thinking skills
Problem-solving
|
·
In communicating skills although they are not yet
fully developed, you can see them potential and you can see the efforts they
exerting when discussing in front even though shyness attacks them.
·
Their thinking skills are sharp, improving each
day as additional knowledge inhibits their heads.
·
Their Problem-Solving skills are practiced when
they ask to perform mathematical operations and board works which will surely
help them to sharpen their minds.

MY ANALYSIS

|
Implications to
the Teaching-Learning Process
|
|
High School
Age of learners observed: 11-
12 yrs old.
|
·
High school students are much disciplined they
listen very well to the instructions given by their teacher.
·
High school students are more independent , the
teacher do not have to tell them one-by-one what to do because they know
already.
|
·
Therefore, teachers should pay attention to what
he/she is saying or dictating because the students will set him/her as the
role model.
·
Therefore, teachers should give proper guidance
and instructions what the class should be doing.

MY REFLECTIONS
1.
While you were observing the learners, did you
recall your own experiences when you were their age? What similarities or
differences do you have with the learners you observed?
·
Yes. As I observed the learners I recall in my elementary
and highschool days. In my own experience, our similarities just like them are
that I always listen to the teachers discussions and cooperate when there is an
activity. On the other hand, our differences are that I have this attitude that
if I already understand the lesson I will not listen anymore to my teacher but
instead I will do talking with my seatmates. Unlike the students I observed up
to the last minute of the class they still listen very eagerly to their
teacher.
2.
Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive
or negative reasons. How did she/he help or not help you with your needs
(physical, emotional, social, cognitive)? How did it affect you?
·
The teacher I cannot forget is Maam. Mary Catera one
of the terror teacher in my Alma Mater. She is known to be very strict, but
very excellent in teaching; she’s also known to give so many handwritten
outlines as a requirement for her to pass her subject. I remembered she is fond
of recitations and she calls us in random, that’s why before attending class
all of us make it sure that we reviewed the past lessons and make advanced
reading on the next lesson because we don’t want her to get mad to us because
we are too scared about what might happen. But as time pass by, I discovered
that beyond her strict face and strong personality is a very loving and caring
heart for her students. And now as I think of her, I also wanted to give credit
to her because that helped me a lot academically and emotionally. The efforts I
exerted, patience and perseverance helped me a lot for what knowledge I have
now.
3.
Which is your favorite theory of development? How
can this guide you as a future teacher?
·
My favorite theory of development is the social
theory wherein we observed how the child interacts to the people around his/her.
This can guide me as a future teacher is by letting known that each child has
his/her own approach to be given.
EPISODE 1: SCHOOL AS A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
As a future teacher, we have a task to done in field study 1 to observation, analyze and reflect of what being done outside and inside the school campus. Experience is a stepping stone to become a better teacher soon. So as to start, Iligan City East National High School is one of the resource school that I observed. As I enter the school campus, I walk and look around the buildings is not fully developed but the construction is still on going. The soroundings was clean, there are so many trees that provides fresh air that the student can relax after their class.
CLASSROOM VISIT
1st observed in the classroom. Teacher is the most critical profession, because it is not easy deal with each student who has different perceptions in life and their behaviours. Basically, in my first observation there are no rooms, the classes start outside the office near the stairway where the student seating in the floor, there are no chairs at all while the blackboard hanging in the wall. I think the students are not comfortable with their postion, even I who obsereved only, how much more the students, who will listen and copy about their discussion. And also the teacher, I know he is worrrying about the situation but he always motivate the students.
OBSERVERED, ANALYZE AND REFLECT
As a student when they are at a school campus and classroom it has a particular impact on learning because it is a second home of each individuals. Where the teachers is the second mother/father in the school environment. Students learn more a lot by their teachers and also with the reinforcement of thier parents. Being a future teacher in the said school environment, I think it is not easy for me especially if I am hadling a class that has no room. And we will class outside the classroom because lack of room and the students dont have enough chairs they dont even comfortable with their position. To set the mind of students and to have a greater knowledge we need to have a kind of school campus that is conducive to learning of students,in school campus is to have a complete building and its facilities that the students can use well. And in classroom, I think the best thing to do is that, to make the room colorful, lots of educational qoutes that can be posted and proper arrangement inside the room.
